Turns out in Calgary you can find some big apples....
And some sweet apples...
But who thought you could find both in one?!
Today we had a team of five volunteers make it out to Riverbend (yes, even in the drizzle!) and pick apples from three trees in under 3 hours! And what a surprise to be had - not only did all three trees have BBB apples (thats Big, Beautiful, and Bold) they were amazingly declicious - there was a semi sweet tree with red-green apples, a green apple tree that surpirsed as all as these were no traditional baking apples as they were even sweeter, and then the best surprise ever - red apples so sweet, moist, with a bit of crunch, it was stunning that this tree was growing in Calgary!
Our team went home with their bags and buckets full (and their bellies too) - but we have good news for you. Want to try some of these great apples? Check out the Sunnyside Hillhurst Farmers Market today (that's Wednesday) and you might find some of these scrumptious Riverbend apples there.
